Dear CustOMER,

Stripey Things are flying out the door ... just in time for Valentines Day. So wise of y'all to stockpile given the supply uncertainties that we told you about last week HERE.

While we're on the subject of Valentines Day, we've curated a range of Designs for Lovers below, and if you order today for Australia you'll receive it before V Day.

Today's hero design bears a simple message: YES. Those of you in Australia who watched Q&A on the ABC on Monday night will be aware that the upcoming referendum hoping to bake an indigenous Voice into our Federal Constitution is far from a forgone conclusion. If your intention is to tick the YES box, maybe you should make the statement early? We are hoping for a positive outcome. For context, back in September 2021 we posted about The Uluru Statement from the Heart. See that story on our website HERE.

YES merchandise HERE

Two new REMO stories this week: Pale Blue Dot and Emeco 1006 Navy Chair, respectively uplifting and intriguing. Check them out, along with a story from 2022 that explains the origin of The Hanky Code, used by gay and bisexual men seeking casual sex. Sydney World Pride 2023 is fast approaching, so we thought that the time to highlight this was now, along with the companion T Shirt design. BYO marker pen :)

Lastly, many of you clicked the link to Maria Popova's inspiring talk about wonder and creativity last week. That was encouraging, and it has inspired me to dig around for something else random for this week's blast. This one is fun for those of you who wear glasses and who might want to preview what you might look like with new frames. The "Virtual Try On" widget on the Dresden Vision website is pretty cool. I love how the frames follow you around as you bob about. Try for yourself HERE. As for me, I'll stick with black.

Big announcement next week. Stay tuned.

Cheers,

Dear CustOMER,

Tomorrow is Australia Day, and to mark that occasion we have curated a range of Australiana Designs for your browsing pleasure. See below. Valentines Day is also not far off, so we've gathered a range of Designs for Lovers. Order now to avoid the rush.

Stripey Things: Good News & Really Bad News. Winter is Coming.

The good news is that we are about to receive a fresh delivery from our maker in Melbourne, and will be in stock of all sizes in classic navy. The really bad news is that the dye house that works with our knitter went out of business last year, meaning that there is literally nowhere local for us to go for the dyed yarn we would need to manufacture further stock. Such a shame given it's literally our most loved product.

So, until something changes, and we manage to source dyed yarn from elsewhere (very likely offshore, and not likely organic) ... we won't be able to restock. The current stock may be the end of the line for our beloved 100% Organic Australian Made version, and the last REMO Stripey Things for a while. Hence our sincere advice to you to order ASAP whatever you think may put to good use over the next couple of years.

Also this week: three new REMO stories: SOSThe Hobo Code and SPAM. Something in there for everyone! Extracts below, or browse full stories on our website HERE.

Finally, some of you may be aware of Maria Popova and The Marginalian (previously Brain Pickings). Maria, who I first met at TED over 10 years ago, is an awesomely productive and creative thinker. She doesn't often give talks, but recently did so for a Creative Mornings event in New York. I really enjoyed catching it via the livestream. If you're interested in notions of "wonder" I would urge you to take a look HERE.

Cheers,

We send CustOMERs a weekly newsletter. Reproduced below is the intro for this week. View full newsletter HERE. Join Mailing List HERE.
______________

Dear CustOMER,

Kung Hei fat Choi! Happy Chinese New Year for Sunday. Year of the Rabbit T Shirts (or for that matter, merchandise celebrating all 12 years of the Chinese zodiac) HERE.

Welcome also to a next-generation chapter for our 35 year old adventure that will position REMO as being as much about stories and ideas as it is will be about designs , things and gifts. The world is an interesting place, and we'll be hoping to inspire you with a regular dose of that interestingness on Thursday mornings at 10:00am Sydney time via this newly designed and newsy newsletter.

The hope is that each week there would be between 1 and 3 new REMO stories to feature along with some fresh designs to highlight. To that end, Melanie and I spent the Christmas / New Year period in and around The Netherlands, visiting our daughter Lola who lives and works over there as an engineer and jeweller. So, you will detect some European influence this week. One of our stories is about the traditional Dutch New Year's Dive and how it has more recently made its way to Bondi Beach; and the other stories this week look at the origin of QR Codes and the functional beauty of the official Swiss Railway Clock.

Three of our new designs for this week were inspired by the City of Amsterdam: vertical XXX (the symbol of that city), Bike Icon (more bikes than there are people over there) and Sunlight Zeep (just a beautiful box of soap). Anchor, my favourite new design, celebrates some tiled graffiti found on the streets of Marseille. It's pretty.

Also this week we'd like to introduce you to a new designer collection, this one from recent National Art School graduate Ella Burke. Melanie spotted Ella's work at the grad show last November, and we have collaborated with her on an initial selection.

On the merch front we have decided to celebrate the start of the 2023 work year with a permanent  25% reduction on the price for our iconic A1 wallplanner HERE.

But by far the most important "thing" that we're working on right now is the first in our series of printed REMORANDOM books. You'll be hearing more about that soon!

Once again, happy new year and welcome back to work; or good luck to you if you are still enjoying your break. Leaving you today with a favourite motto (naturally also a thoughtfully merchandised REMO design): Do Good Work. Have Some Fun.

Cheers,

REMO Since 1988

REMO Since 1988

Change is Fun ... and, to that end, you may have noticed that our URL has changed from remogeneralstore.com to remosince1988.com so as to reflect the broadening of our scope from selling THINGS and DESIGNS to also telling STORIES. The new URL which mirrors the wording on our beloved long time head logo is both descriptive and distinctive. We hope you like it.

Today is actually a big day. It was exactly 34 years ago that we opened the doors to our Darlinghurst General Store for the very first time. For a trip down remory land go HERE ... and check out the flickr slide show HERE.

To celebrate our 34th birthday for this week only we will reduce the price of EVERYTHING in our store to 88% of the listed price. Just enter the code RS88 into the promo code feel as you're checking out. Start HERE.

Featured Design: Dagen H

Featured Design: Dagen H

“Dagen H” (H Day) happened on 3 September 1967, the day that Sweden switched from driving on the left hand side of the road to the right. The "H" stands for "Högertrafik", the Swedish word for right hand traffic. It was by far the largest logistical event in Sweden's history, and the most massive overhaul in driving infrastructure that the world had ever seen. This was the logo for that campaign. Read the full REMO Story HERE.

We love this design ... although, in truth, our sales expectations for it are low. Having said that, we showed it to a 15 year old friend of our god daughter last night who declared that she would like nothing better than to wear the design and then tell the story to whomever was curious enough to ask.

Browse and order Dagen H T Shirts HERE.
